Dip dye nails

Hey Guys!
So as you may come to realise through my blog, I have a bit of an obsession when it comes to nails and nail polish which is kind of ironic cause most of the time I cannot wear any. Anyways, any time I can I always put some on and try and think of different unique ideas for my nails to stand out. Dip dying has become very popular in the Summer season this year especially in hair and clothes but I thought I would try to incorporate it into the nails! It's actually quite a simple process and I'll take you through step by step to create the ombre effect with nail polish!

Firstly all you need is some nail polish remover, some cotton pads, a sponge (any size), a clear base and top coat, 2 colours of nail polish (in this example yellow and orange). To start off you will need to remove any nail polish already on your nails with your remover and pads.

Then you can add your clear base coat on all your nails to protect the nails from any harm and this will make sure the polish will last longer on the nails, which we all want. Who likes chipped nails?!
Once the base layer has dried after a few minutes, you can then add your first colour which is the colour that your nail will mostly be and this can be a light or dark colour it doesn't matter! And you must wait for that to dry before adding the second colour.
You can then chose your second colour which will be at the tip of your nail, and then paint a strip of the colour on top of the first colour and then let dry. I have used the second colour on the tip but I suppose you could add it on the bottom of the nail if you wanted but I find my method easier!
You then get your sponge, which you can buy very cheaply but mine was just lying around the house, and paint on two strips of the colour you have used. Don't let this dry as you need it to be wet to use for the next stage!
The polish already on your nail must be dry at this point cause if you added the sponge if the nail was wet then it would remove the polish straight away (believe me I learnt the hard way!). Place the wet sponge on the dry nail (make sure the sponge is the right way up and the colours match!) and keep dabbing the sponge on the nail and it should create the dip dye effect automatically so the colours merge together.
This is what it should look like where the colours gradually build up together and you should wait for this to dry before adding the top coat which will add an extra wee bit of shine to the nail and will keep it protected!
If a sponge is not to hand then you could try and use your finger to merge them together, which I have tried and it works, but is very messy!!
A lot of people have asked me how to do this when they have seen me in town with these stand out nails so I thought I would make a blog post about it which I hope you have understood and I hope you try!
